outdoor activity

Aimed at students in Years 7-9, this is excellent preparation for common entrance exams and is a fantastic opportunity to consolidate some of the classroom learning with a fun trip away. The programme is often cross-curricular, combining Geography, biology and History. The combination of enjoyment and education will inspire your students and encourage them to pursue Geography at a higher level. Fieldwork techniques are blended with outdoor activities, such as team-building or navigation, which engage the students’ attention and promote the subject.  The underlying success of all our courses is the sense of realism, excitement experienced by learning outside.

With textbook geographical sites such as Old Harry’s Rocks and Lulworth Cove a stone’s throw away, and the historical majesty of Corfe Castle greeting your entry to the Isle of Purbeck, we are well situated to inspire and educate your students!

Programme features include a bespoke programme, tailored to your Learning Objectives, with our expert tutors providing a wide range of Geographical theory and local knowledge. Our 2 and 4 night programmes mix a variety of sessions, with fun evening sessions to engage the students.

Part of our active learner range of programmes, your students will be closer than ever to the subject by studying classic fieldwork sites from a completely different angle. Imagine taking a Sea Kayak tour around the chalk stacks of Old Harry Rocks, and examining the erosion up close, abseiling down through geological and industrial history at Dancing Ledge, an outdoor recreation Honeypot site, or orienteering across Ballard Down using map skills and GPS navigation.

Directly experiencing the coastlines features and geomorphology gives a totally different emphasis on the need to understand the geology, coastal processes and the impact of tourism, and is a great way to enthuse and inspire students to continue their Geography studies into GCSE or A-Level.

Programme features include a bespoke programme, tailored to your Learning Objectives, with our expert tutors providing a wide range of Geographical theory and local knowledge. Our 2 and 4 night programmes mix a variety of sessions, with fun evening sessions to engage the students.

We are well located on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and our bespoke programmes are tailored to your students’ needs and exam board specifications. Our expert Teaching Team and Programme Coordinators are on-hand throughout your stay, and our Fieldwork Coordinator is available for all of your pre and post-visit questions, to ensure your staff feel supported at all times.

With opportunities to complete Fieldwork in two contrasting environments, exploring physical and human processes, and the interactions between them, in awe-inspiring textbook locations including Lulworth Cove, Swanage, Old Harry’s Rocks and Studland, we aim to both inspire and educate your students. By linking back to the enquiry process at all stages and encouraging critical evaluative thinking, we help to prepare students for the unfamiliar fieldwork data they may encounter in an exam question.

Our 2 and 4 night programmes include sessions designed to cover a range of quantitative and qualitative methodology such as beach profiling and land-use surveys, with all the tuition, equipment and workbooks provided, alongside follow-up evenings to consolidate the students’ learning.

The key to a successful A-Level Geographer is being an independent learner, and here at Allnatt we aim to be flexible and accommodating to support your students. Whether they need inspiration for their NEAs, or if they know exactly what they need to do and simply require help with equipment and logistics, our expert staff are fully flexible and committed to ensuring each and every one of your students leaves the trip feeling prepared and with plenty of data.

With evening sessions to encourage imaginative and creative thinking when planning their NEAs, and different ways to approach the enquiry process, alongside staples of geographers the world over of data presentation and analysis, we offer coaching to students before facilitating Primary and Secondary data gathering.

The Isle of Purbeck, and the broader Dorset area, provide many textbook locations for fieldwork, and can be used by both AS students to cover the two days of Fieldwork required, and by A-Level students completing their NEAs.

As every school approaches the Independent Investigations differently, our extensive experience allows us to offer guidance on logistics, locations, equipment, theory and opportunities available to your students, at whatever level required.

ENRICH YOUR LEARNING

Motivate your student’s learning with an out of classroom experience of Geography which brings the subject to life. Our method of teaching encourages students to think for themselves and provides opportunities to experience the natural environment and practice the basics of fieldwork. The underlying success of all our courses is the sense of realism and the excitement experienced by learning outside.
